Baa Atoll Study Tour

Day 3

During the third day of the study tour, participants visited the Eydhafushi Waste Management Center. The Eydhafushi Council President and staff shared valuable insights into the center’s operations, the challenges they face, and how waste is managed on the island.

The participants received hands-on practical lessons on machinery operations, from sorting incoming waste to using the mini baler, operating the glass crusher, and cutting metals into scrap.

Day 2

On day two of the study tour, we visited the B. Dharavnadhoo waste facility. We arrived on the waste transfer vessel and observed the baled waste, nicely packed and piled up, ready for transfer to Thilafushi. Later, we stopped by the B. Fainu waste facility. The most impressive part was that this facility is managed by two remarkable women—Hana and Aisha—very inspiring! The WAMCO Veshifaara Veriya, Zuhuraa, who was part of our team, had so many questions, and the women were so willing to share their experience. It was indeed a great learning experience for our partners from the WAMCO and KCC.

Day 1

Our Baa Atoll study tour for our two key partners, WAMCO and KCC, organized with Soneva Namoona baa, is off to a great start! Three members from the WAMCO Kulhudhufushi team, one from the Kulhudhufushi council, and our project team traveled to Eydhafushi Friday evening. This trip is a valuable learning experience as we prepare for the Kulhudhufushi material recovery facility operation in a couple of months. Day one included a visit to the Eydhafushi waste management facility and a very informative presentation from the Sonevaa Namoonaa baa team about their initiatives. Looking forward to day two!!!!
